Former Honduran General Romeo Vasquez Detained Ahead of Trial for 2009 Protester Killing
Retired General Romeo Vasquez has been detained pending trial for his alleged role in the killing of a protester during a military attack in July 2009. His arrest follows his prominent involvement in the military coup that ousted former President Manuel Zelaya. Along with two other former senior military officials, Vasquez faces charges related to homicide and causing serious bodily harm. The trial is slated to begin on January 10.
