Donal Kelly, former political editor at RTÉ and a notable figure in Irish journalism, has died at the age of 86. A native of Buncrana, Co Donegal, he joined RTÉ in the 1960s and covered significant events such as the Northern Ireland conflict, Nelson Mandela’s address to the Irish parliament, and the divorce referendum of 1986. Kelly retired in 2002 and is remembered for his impactful reporting during pivotal political moments in Irish history. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
