Four French Officials Released from Detention in Burkina Faso Thanks to Moroccan Mediation
Four French officials, accused of espionage and detained in Burkina Faso for a year, have been released following mediation by Morocco. The announcement was made by France’s General Directorate for External Security (DGSE), which thanked King Mohammed VI for his role in the release. Tensions have escalated between France and Burkina Faso since a coup in 2022, leading to deteriorating diplomatic relations. The release coincides with a recent reconciliation between France and Morocco, marked by a state visit from French President Emmanuel Macron.
