France Acquires Majority Stake in Alcatel Submarine Networks to Boost Strategic Infrastructure

France is set to acquire 80% of Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) in a deal valued at around 100 million euros, with the signing taking place on November 5 in Calais. The company’s strategic importance, given its substantial market share in submarine cables critical for global communications, has prompted the government to invest in ASN, previously owned by Nokia. Minister Antoine Armand emphasized the acquisition’s role in enhancing national sovereignty and industrial strategy, citing projections for ASN’s revenue to potentially double or triple in the coming years. The plan includes a future option for the state to obtain full ownership.
