A new durability index has been launched in France to guide consumers on the repairability and reliability of electronics, starting with televisions. This index replaces the previous repairability score and evaluates products based on new criteria, including durability and commercial warranty. While it aims to encourage manufacturers to create eco-designed products, consumer groups are disappointed by the limited range of products covered, particularly the exclusion of smartphones. The index will roll out to washing machines by April 2024.
