For two years, France has been training Ukrainian divers to perform underwater mine clearance. French trainer Jean-Yves Siffointe, part of a specialized unit, has been working to help Ukraine de-mine its rivers and lakes by teaching local divers how to safely identify and neutralize explosives. This intricate skill set, rare globally, has been effectively transferred to Ukraine with the goal of increasing safety in the region. Once recovered, munitions are safely relocated for destruction.
