Free Fined 2.2 Million Euros for Deceptive Practices in Phone Orders

French telecommunications operator Free has been fined 2.2 million euros for misleading commercial practices after cancelling customer phone orders without timely refunds. The fine was imposed by the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs, and Fraud Control (DGCCRF), which stated that Free’s actions occurred between August 2020 and January 2022. The company has agreed to cease these practices and has settled the fine. Additionally, Free faced a separate ruling for misleading advertising related to a 5G mobile plan, resulting in a payment of 15,000 euros to Familles Rurales.
