French Parliament Approves Budget Bill Amid Opposition Censure Threats

On December 4, the French Parliament approved the ‘fin de gestion’ budget bill for 2024, finalizing adjustments for the current fiscal year. The government led by Prime Minister Michel Barnier secured approval from lawmakers, including those from the National Rally (RN), with a vote of 318 to 103. The bill, after facing rejection in the National Assembly initially, was adopted by the Senate and later received broad support, allowing the government to avoid invoking a contentious procedure. Despite RN’s support, they remain committed to voting for a censure motion against the government.
