French Startup Lhyfe Aims to Combat Baltic Sea Deoxygenation

French startup Lhyfe has unveiled a serious project to combat the deoxygenation of the Baltic Sea, exacerbated by climate change and nutrient runoff. Collaborating with a Finnish company and Stockholm University, Lhyfe plans to reintroduce oxygen into the water using a process that separates hydrogen and oxygen from water, powered by offshore wind energy. With support from the United Nations, Lhyfe intends to begin pilot installations in Sweden by 2026 and aims to rejuvenate large areas of the Baltic Sea over the coming years.
