The regional authority of Corfu will not fund the Achileion project; instead, the Hellenic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED) and the Hellenic Tourism Properties (ETAD) will provide €10 million. Regional Governor Giannis Trepeklis emphasized the need for ETAD to finance the project after the contractor abandoned it. Previous funds allocated from the European Structural Funds will now be redirected towards urgent needs on the island, such as restoring a local school building.
