Geneva to Vote on Controversial Pedestrian Bridge Project

On November 24, Geneva residents will vote on a contentious proposal for a new pedestrian bridge adjacent to the Mont-Blanc Bridge. Estimated to cost CHF 54.6 million, with financial support from the city, federal, and cantonal sources, the project aims to enhance pedestrian safety by separating foot traffic from cyclists and vehicles. Designed by architect Pierre-Alain Dupraz, the bridge will feature a 4.8-meter-wide walkway and a continuous bench. Opponents argue that it may exacerbate conflicts between pedestrians and cyclists without significantly reducing motorized traffic.
