German Bundestag Votes to Recognize Pontic Greek Genocide
On December 19, the German Bundestag voted in favor of recognizing the Genocide of the Pontic Greeks by Turkey. The proposal, presented by MP Takis Mehmet Ali, received overwhelming support, except from the far-right AfD party. Key figures from the Federation of Pontic Greeks in Europe highlighted the historical significance and the ongoing struggle for recognition, calling the previous omission in 2016’s resolution problematic. The organization plans future actions to revise this historical narrative ahead of the upcoming elections and the 2025 anniversary of the genocide.
