The German Cabinet has approved an extension of short-time work benefits from twelve to 24 months to support workers and businesses during economically difficult times. Labour Minister Hubertus Heil emphasized the need to secure skilled workers as companies, particularly in the export sector, face significant challenges. The new regulation is effective until December 31, 2025, and follows a notable rise in the number of employees on short-time work due to current economic conditions.
