Germany Faces Public Administration Crisis Due to Staff Shortages
The German Association of Cities and Municipalities has issued a warning about a looming crisis in public administration due to significant staff shortages. CEO Andre Berghegger stated that by 2030, Germany may face a shortfall of 230,000 employees as many current staff retire. He noted over 100,000 positions are currently vacant, impacting essential services including public transport and childcare. Berghegger advocates for the adoption of artificial intelligence and flexible work models to address these challenges and enhance the attractiveness of public sector jobs.
