The global diabetes prevalence among adults has surged from 7% in 1990 to approximately 14% in 2022, affecting over 800 million individuals. The highest rates are found in low and middle-income countries, with India and China leading in numbers. Alarmingly, most patients in these countries remain untreated, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced funding and comprehensive diabetes programs. Countries such as Canada, South Korea, and parts of Europe have seen improvements in treatment rates, contrasting sharply with the stagnation observed in many developing regions.
