Government Enacts Price Freeze in Mayotte to Combat Crisis Inflation
In response to the devastating effects of Cyclone Chido, the government has enacted a decree to freeze prices on essential consumer goods in Mayotte, which is in a state of ‘exceptional natural calamity’. The decree, published on December 19, prevents prices of food, beverages, hygiene products, pet food, and construction materials from exceeding levels recorded on December 13. Additionally, the prefect of Mayotte is authorized to set maximum prices based on average prices from that date.
