Greece Enforces Strict Measures Amid Animal Disease Outbreaks

In response to confirmed cases of sheep pox in Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and Thessaly, and peste des petits ruminants in Western Greece, the General Veterinary Directorate has implemented strict measures from November 8 to 15, 2024. These measures include prohibiting livestock movement for fattening and breeding, allowing movement only under stringent conditions for animals not moved for 30 days prior, and ensuring thorough veterinary checks. Slaughterhouse operations will commence in Thessaly, adhering to robust biosecurity protocols. The situation will be reassessed on November 15 to inform further control actions.
