Greece Expands Fire and Flood Season to Year-Round Declaration
A new amendment proposed by the Greek party Plevsi Eleftherias aims to declare an annual fire and flood season from January 1 to December 31, starting November 1, 2024. The initiative, spearheaded by party leader Zoe Konstantopoulou, is a response to climate change challenges. Additionally, it seeks to automatically extend seasonal firefighters’ contracts that were set to end in October 2024. Discussions in Parliament have gained support from various political factions, with calls for collaboration from opposing parties like PASOK and KKE to ensure the amendment’s adoption.
