Greece Initiates First Phase of Military Base Mergers and Closures

The Greek Ministry of National Defense, led by Minister Nikos Dendias, has announced the immediate implementation of the first phase of military base mergers and closures by December 31. This plan includes ten military bases, focusing on increasing staffing levels and operational capabilities of the armed forces while responding to modern operational requirements. Significant changes will affect bases in Evros, with mergers planned for various units. A second phase of closures is scheduled for completion by March 31, 2025.
