Greece Introduces National AI Regulatory Authorities to Uphold Fundamental Rights

Greece’s Ministry of Digital Governance has published a list of national authorities responsible for enforcing compliance with the EU’s AI Act, safeguarding citizens’ fundamental rights. This initiative marks Greece’s commitment to human-centered AI as outlined by the EU, with added powers granted to various authorities, including the Data Protection Authority and the Human Rights Commission. Effective from August 2, 2026, these authorities will access documentation to ensure conformity. The AI Act, effective from August 2, 2024, represents a significant legal framework for AI regulation worldwide.
