Greece Sees Significant Reduction in VAT Gap as Compliance Measures Take Effect
Greece has reported a notable decrease in its VAT gap, according to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR), citing EU data. The VAT gap fell to 13.7% in 2022, down from 17.5% in 2021, representing a 21.7% reduction. Since the establishment of IAPR in 2017, the VAT gap has decreased by 53%. IAPR Governor George Pitsilis emphasized the importance of efforts to combat tax evasion, including the integration of artificial intelligence and digitalization in audits.
