Greece Supports Albania’s EU Bid with Conditions on Ethnic Minority Rights
Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has expressed support for Albania’s long-standing bid to join the European Union, contingent upon Albania respecting the rights of its ethnic Greek minority. Following tensions due to the arrest of ethnic Greek politician Fredis Beleris, Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of fulfilling obligations towards minority rights as a factor in Albania’s EU accession. Meanwhile, Greece also supports Serbia’s EU membership efforts, with Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis declaring it a geopolitical necessity.
