Greece’s Minister of Climate Crisis Discusses New Emergency Equipment Program

Greece’s Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vasilis Kikilias, detailed the comprehensive ‘Aegis’ program aimed at enhancing the country’s emergency response capabilities. Over the next 17 to 19 months, the initiative will acquire weather stations and radar systems nationwide, funded through multiple sources. Kikilias noted the importance of ongoing assessments for impending severe weather while reflecting on improved wildfire management during an unusually hot and dry season. He emphasized the need for sustained rain and highlighted the accomplishments in reducing burnt areas compared to previous years.
