Greece’s Trade Deficit Hits Record High Amid Rising Imports
Greece’s trade deficit expanded significantly in September 2024, surpassing €25 billion for the first nine months of the year, marking an annual increase of 8.5%. The Hellenic Statistical Authority reported that imports rose to €7.17 billion, while exports decreased to €4.12 billion, leading to a trade deficit of €3.06 billion for September alone. Notably, exports without oil recorded a 13.3% increase, yet the overall export value declined 4.6% compared to last year. Analysts attribute the growing deficit to the continued rise in import values outpacing export performance.
