Greek Authorities Crack Down on Alcohol Smuggling Ring

A coordinated operation by Greek authorities led to the dismantling of an alcohol smuggling network operating through fictitious businesses in Albania and Austria. Twelve individuals were arrested, and large quantities of untaxed alcoholic beverages were seized, including 43,000 bottles and significant amounts of money. The operation also involved allegations against an employee from Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue, prompting an urgent disciplinary investigation. The fiscal loss for the Greek government due to uncollected duties is estimated to be around 3 million euros.
