Greek Coast Guard Rescues Over 200 Migrants Off Crete, Highlighting Rising Concerns
In the past two days, the Greek Coast Guard has rescued more than 200 migrants off the coast of Crete, originating from Libya’s Tobruk region. The Greek government described the situation as ‘worrying,’ with traffickers charging between €3,000 and €6,000 per migrant for the perilous journey. Migration Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos noted that many of these individuals aim to continue their journey to Western Europe. Since January, around 52,000 migrants have reached Greece, with a significant proportion arriving by sea, raising concerns over the increasing influx.
