Greek Doctor Sentenced for Accepting Bribe Amid Corruption Investigation
A university doctor in Greece has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for demanding a €5,000 bribe from a patient in relation to a cardiology procedure. The Thessaloniki court found him guilty of employee bribery but suspended the sentence due to mitigating circumstances. The case was uncovered in November 2020 following a complaint to the local police. The doctor, who has also faced allegations of taking bribes from over 15 other patients from 2018 to 2020, denied the charges, claiming he was set up. A separate case regarding the additional allegations remains pending.
