Greek Lawmaker Critiques Primary Health Care Reform in Parliament
During a parliamentary session, Giovanni Tsimaras, a lawmaker from Ioannina and deputy secretary of PASOK-Movement for Change, sharply criticized a new primary health care bill. While supporting the role of personal physicians, he deemed the plan outdated and lacking a comprehensive care approach. Tsimaras urged the inclusion of all medical specialties and the restriction of unqualified rural doctors’ practice in urban areas. He expressed concerns over private physician participation, which may create access disparities, and emphasized the necessity of equitable service availability for the personal physician initiative to succeed.
