Greek Ministry Addressing Domestic Violence with New Strategies and Legal Discussions

Andreas Nikolakopoulos, Greece’s Deputy Minister of Public Order, reported a concerning rise in domestic violence cases, with over 200 arrests weekly. In the past week alone, there were 222 detentions and 666 emergency calls. The government has implemented measures such as the Panic Button for women, leading to 113 activations recently. While acknowledging societal causes for these incidents, he affirmed the need for comprehensive strategies to combat domestic violence, including discussions on the legal framing of femicide.
