Michalis Ganas, a prominent Greek poet, has died at the age of 80. Born in 1944 in Chamantha, he spent his early years in Eastern Europe before studying law at the University of Athens. Ganas was a multifaceted cultural figure, working as a bookseller, radio producer, and lyricist, with his poetry set to music by notable composers like Mikis Theodorakis. Honored with the State Poetry Award in both 1994 and 2011, his works have been translated into several languages. The Municipality of Ioannina pays homage to Ganas, celebrating his deep connection to the region and its culture.
