Guatemala Sends Additional Troops to Haiti Amid Gang Violence
A second contingent of 75 Guatemalan military personnel arrived in Haiti’s capital on Saturday to bolster a multinational force combating gang violence in the country. This brings the total Guatemalan deployment to 150 troops. The multinational force, led by Kenya, has seen a smaller presence than initially promised, with only 400 police deployed compared to the 1,000 pledged. Additionally, El Salvador is contributing troops and helicopters to support medical evacuations and enhance security operations.
