Harvesting the Unique Throumba Olive of Thassos Island

The show ‘From the Field to the Shelf’ explores the production and processing of the Throumba black olive from Thassos, a variety unique to the island. The olive harvest is currently underway, lasting 35-40 days, with the olives being both table olives and used for oil production. The Throumba olive has been a P.D.O. (Protected Designation of Origin) product for several years. Yiannis Markianos, the Deputy Mayor of Tourism in Thassos, emphasized the significance of this olive, stating it serves as an ambassador for the island.
