Hippodrome Industry Unites Against Proposed Tax Hike in Paris

On November 7, nearly 5,000 individuals from the horse racing industry are set to protest in Paris against a government amendment that proposes increasing the tax on horse betting. The planned amendment would raise the taxation on physical bets from 6.9% to 7.5%, and online bets from 6.9% to 15%. This measure, viewed as ‘lethal’ by industry leaders, threatens the livelihoods of numerous agricultural workers and jockeys, with potential losses estimated at 35 million euros annually. Although the amendment was recently rejected by the National Assembly, concerns remain over its possible reintroduction in the Senate.
