The first televised leaders’ debate of the General Election campaign will occur tonight on RTÉ, featuring ten party leaders. This marks the largest debate in Irish television history, reflecting a fragmented political landscape with 29 parties registered. RTÉ’s Election Steering Group determined debate participation based on specific criteria, ensuring only qualified parties with Dáil representation are included. The debate, hosted by Katie Hannon, begins at 9.35pm and will last two hours. Additionally, a special episode of the election podcast will be recorded backstage.
