Holiday Shopping in Greece Surpasses Expectations, Reports Chamber President

The President of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce, Vasilis Korkidis, expressed satisfaction with the holiday shopping performance, noting a turnover exceeding 4 billion euros in December. He attributed this success to a Christmas bonus of 1.2 billion euros and a decrease in unemployment to 9%. Key sectors during the festive period included clothing, children’s products, toys, and gadgets, with digital payments making up 53% of transactions. Despite concerns over inflation, consumer spending remained robust compared to the previous year.
