Holyhead Port Closure Threatens Christmas Deliveries and Haulage Industry
The closure of Holyhead Port, due to damage from Storm Darragh, poses a significant challenge to haulage companies, with up to €2 billion worth of goods stranded. Ger Hyland, President of the Irish Road Haulage Association, warns that unless financial support is provided by the Irish Government or EU, many companies face collapse. With a scramble underway to reroute goods, the disruption could result in delayed Christmas deliveries, especially for non-EU packages. Hyland calls for immediate action from both the UK and Irish governments regarding the port’s reopening timeline.
