IG Metall Reaches Landmark Agreement in German Metal and Electrical Industries
After 18 hours of negotiations, IG Metall announced a new pay agreement with employers in the German metal and electrical industries. This pilot deal affects 3.9 million employees and is set to expand nationally, starting with the Bavaria and Coastal regions. Initially seeking a 7% wage increase, union efforts were fueled by ongoing inflation and cost-of-living concerns, while employers offered a lower 3.6%. More than 600,000 employees participated in warning strikes to support the demands, amidst the industry’s struggles with recession and structural challenges.
