Following a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Aliyev demanded public apologies from Russia, stating that Russian accounts of the incident are designed to suppress the truth. He claims the plane was subjected to electronic jamming and gunfire from Russian territory. Putin acknowledged that Russian air defenses were active at the time but denied responsibility for the incident.
