Impact of Thessaloniki Metro on City Traffic Flow Analyzed in Recent Study

A recent study by EKETA/IMET and the Smart Mobility Laboratory in Thessaloniki examines the traffic impact following the metro’s launch from November 25 to December 15, 2024. It reports a 10% decrease in daily vehicle entries into Thessaloniki’s city center, with substantial reductions noted from western municipalities. Overall traffic conditions improved significantly on major city routes, while the regional road traffic remained unaffected. Findings suggest the metro’s role in reducing congestion and enhancing urban mobility.
