Increase in Domestic Violence Reports in Ireland Amid New Legislation
An Garda Síochána reported a 9% rise in domestic violence-related contacts in 2024, totaling over 61,000. This increase, revealed by the Garda National Protective Services Bureau, coincides with the introduction of new laws on non-fatal strangulation and stalking, leading to over 50 prosecutions. Detective Chief Superintendent Colm Noonan emphasized the ongoing efforts to support victims, especially during the festive season, urging anyone affected by domestic or sexual violence to reach out for help.
