Increase in Home Care for Elderly in Germany Highlights Growing Need for Support

As of December 2023, the number of people in need of care in Germany reached nearly 5.7 million, an increase of over 700,000 since 2021. Approximately 86% of these individuals received care at home, primarily from family members. The surge exceeds expectations due to a broader definition of care needs established in 2017. Most care recipients are elderly, with 78% aged 65 and older, reflecting demographic trends and longer life expectancies, particularly among women.
