Increase in Jobs for Asylum Seekers in 2023 Due to New Regulations

The number of asylum seekers in the Netherlands who have found employment has significantly increased this year, with four times more holding jobs compared to 2023. The change in regulations allowing year-round employment, instead of a 24-week limit, has made it easier for employers to hire asylum seekers. The UWV has issued 7,370 work permits this year, up from 1,840 last year, predominantly to staffing agencies, hospitality, and cleaning sectors. Experts call for further efforts to tap into the unused talent among asylum seekers.
