Increase in Rough Sleeping in Dublin Revealed in 2024 Winter Count

The 2024 Winter Count conducted by the Dublin Simon Community Outreach team reported that 134 people were sleeping rough in Dublin, an increase of 16 from last year. The majority were Irish males aged 26 to 45, with 43% using tents. The Dublin Region Homeless Executive highlighted the urgent need for more couple’s beds and pointed out that the count does not reflect the full extent of homelessness. Catherine Kenny, CEO of Dublin Simon Community, expressed alarm at the rising numbers amidst cold weather, emphasizing the ongoing homelessness crisis.
