Increasing Retirement Trends Among Public Sector Employees in Greece
Greece is witnessing a rise in retirements among public sector employees due to demographic changes and new regulations allowing post-retirement work without pension cuts. In 2023, 14,621 regular employees retired, with projections of 14,649 in 2024 and 15,094 in 2025. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health were the most affected. New hiring is restricted under a 1:1 replacement rule, yet 18,010 new positions were created in 2023, with expectations for approximately 20,000 new hires in 2025.
