India’s First Analog Space Mission Tests Future Habitats for Moon and Mars

India’s AAKA Space Studio has launched its first analog space mission, Hab-1, in the Ladakh mountains to simulate living conditions for future space missions. Space architect Aastha Kacha-Jhala designed the facility with limited space in mind, featuring essential amenities like a dry toilet and waste disposal system. This project aids in preparing astronauts for India’s upcoming Gaganyaan mission, which aims to send astronauts to low-Earth orbit. The initiative is part of India’s broader space exploration plans, including a space station by 2035 and manned missions to the Moon by 2040.
