Innovative AI System Aims to Identify Patients with Suicidal Tendencies
Researchers from Vanderbilt University Medical Center have developed an artificial intelligence system, known as the Vanderbilt Suicide Attempt and Ideation Likelihood (VSAIL) model, designed to help doctors identify patients at risk of suicide during routine clinic visits. The study, published in ‘JAMA Network Open’, compared automated alert systems with passive information displays, finding that alerts significantly improved detection rates. The implications suggest potential uses of similar systems in various medical settings to enhance suicide prevention efforts.
