Over 200 farms in Solothurn, Switzerland, have successfully tested measures to enhance soil fertility amid climate change for six years. The research project focused on improving humus content through methods like green manuring and intercropping. Results indicate that 97% of participating farms saw increased humus levels, highlighting the agriculture sector’s commitment to sustainable practices. Despite challenges in measuring short-term changes in humus, experts stress that these initiatives reflect a growing understanding of soil health’s importance. The project was supported by a budget of 3.2 million Swiss Francs, with substantial funding from the federal government.
