Innovative Ocean Research Powered by Vendée Globe Skippers

Skippers participating in the Vendée Globe solo sailing race are aiding scientific research by deploying advanced Argo floats into the ocean. These 20-kilogram devices continuously collect vital data about ocean pressure, temperature, and salinity, contributing to a better understanding of ocean currents and their impact on climate. The initiative, a partnership with Ifremer, aims to enhance safety at sea and improve weather forecasting through the gathered information. By late 2024, approximately 4,000 Argo floats will be operational, providing valuable data to global researchers.
