Intensive Tax Audits by Greek Independent Authority Targeting Over 72,000 Cases

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) in Greece is conducting intensified tax audits, focusing on more than 72,000 cases that include soon-to-expire statutes of limitations and random selections based on a risk analysis system. The aim is to uncover undeclared income and reduce tax evasion. The majority of audits will concentrate on recent tax periods, with specific categories including comprehensive checks, site inspections, property transfer inspections, and targeted audits for large-scale tax evasion. George Pitsilis, the head of AADE, outlines the categories and expected compliance measures.
