International Team Investigates Underwater Volcanic Centers in Aegean Sea
An international research team embarks on a prominent oceanographic mission, MSM132, to explore underwater volcanic centers in Santorini and the fault off Amorgos in the Aegean Sea. Led by GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, the mission aims to study geological processes that could lead to landslides, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis. Researchers will utilize advanced technologies to develop early warning systems, improving safety for coastal regions. Key questions include the relationship between seismic activity and volcanic eruptions, the stability of the Kolumbo volcano, and real-time monitoring capabilities.
